Ashton Kutcher Earns BJJ Black Belt
After fifteen years of hard work and perseverance, actor Ashton Kutcher has earned his BJJ black belt. Kutcher’s coach, Rigan Machado, announced the news on his Instagram and praised the actor for being one of his best students and never giving up.
Kutcher’s grappling journey began in 2010, sparked by a desire to recapture his Iowa high school wrestling days—where he competed intensely in a state famed for the sport. Seeking an adult outlet for physical challenge, he trained at Ricardo De La Riva’s academy in Rio de Janeiro during a trip, then committed to Machado’s Los Angeles program.
His early rise drew skepticism: a blue belt in early 2014 and purple later that year, fueled by daily private sessions emphasizing technique, drills, and full sparring. Joe Rogan, a fellow black belt, vouched for its legitimacy, quipping, “If Ashton Kutcher got a purple belt from Rigan Machado, that shit is legit.”
Congratulations to Ashton Kutcher on earning his black belt, and this shows if you remain dedicated, you can do anything if you stay at it and never give up.

Bobby is martial artist for almost 20 years with a BJJ black belt under Professor Sergio Miranda. He is also a karate black and former combat sports athlete, who loves all things grappling.
