Celebrities who will Inspire you to get into BJJ

It’s weird seeing someone you see on TV do something mundane like wash the dishes or buy groceries. It’s even weirder seeing them at your BJJ gym. But fact is: famous people are human too. We’ve got a list celebrities who have done a lot for the popularity of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu either through dedication or sheer star power.

#1 Keanu Reeves

Number one on our list is Keanu Reeves. Mr. Reeves made it big time with what is perhaps the best or at the very least the most revolutionary movie of the previous millennium, the Matrix. He’s still into great action however and has recently taken up the John Wick franchise which we have listed in our article on the best movies that have got Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as part of their choreography. In fact, he trained with the Machado brothers, cousins to the Gracie family, to get his jiu-jitsu up to point for the movie and get this, he’s a white belt.

#2 Chuck Norris

Number two is Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris had dominated the action movie scene 30 years ago. As a side note and testament to the type of characters that he played, there’d been a bunch of jokes that make fun of his movie characters. For example, when Chuck Norris does push-ups he isn’t actually lifting himself. He’s pushing the earth off its axis. If you’re on the younger side you might not be that familiar with this great actor. But trust us, he’s one of the people who made the martial arts character in movies what it is today. He’s well into old age, but still trains and does various types of martial arts one of which is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He’s got a black belt.

#3 Bruce Lee

I really ought to have put this guy first on the list. A martial arts legend, he gave the oriental martial artist character a way into Hollywood. He’s oftentimes cited as the first proponent of mixed martial arts. Although, he’d never officially undergone BJJ training I put him on the list just because of his approach to martial arts and because he recognized grappling as a viable and perhaps even more dominant form of unarmed combat. If you check his movies out you’ll run into Russian ties, throws, takedowns and key locks. Sorry if you think he doesn’t count, but the man deserves a mention.

#4  Ashton Kutcher

This one came as a bit of a surprise. Mr. Kutcher is more of a comedy type of actor. But get this, he’s a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  He went big in Hollywood with movies like My Bosses’ Daughter, Dude Where’s my Car and the hilarious TV show That 70’s Show. He carries a lot of star power that might make you think of getting into BJJ.

#5 Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is a huge name in the American music business. Besides this, she’s also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. With a massive number of followers on instagram and similar social networks just a single post in a GI will reach thousands of people.
