The sport of wrestling is growing rapidly across the world. Not only is the fan base growing, but also the number of participants, who often ask about the different wrestling weight classes.

That’s why we put together this complete list of wrestling weight classes from the U20 to the Olympics.

(Note: We did not add the US scholastic weight classes used within the public school system, because not every state uses the same divisions, and we didn’t want to put incorrect information.)

Greco-Roman Wrestling Weight Classes

Greco-Roman wrestling, governed by UWW, is primarily a male discipline at the senior international level, with women typically competing in freestyle. Below are the senior-level Greco-Roman wrestling weight classes for men.

Men’s Greco-Roman (UWW, Senior Level):

  • 55 kg (121.3 lbs)
  • 60 kg (132.3 lbs)
  • 63 kg (138.9 lbs)
  • 67 kg (147.7 lbs)
  • 72 kg (158.7 lbs)
  • 77 kg (169.8 lbs)
  • 82 kg (180.8 lbs)
  • 87 kg (191.8 lbs)
  • 97 kg (213.8 lbs)

Women’s Greco-Roman

Greco-Roman is not typically contested by women in major UWW competitions (e.g., Olympics, World Championships). In rare cases where women’s Greco-Roman exists (e.g., regional or developmental events), weight classes often align with women’s freestyle.

Freestyle Wrestling Weight Classes

Freestyle wrestling, also governed by UWW, is contested by both men and women. Between the men’s and women’s divisions, there are currently 20 freestyle wrestling weight classes under UWW rules.

Collegiate wrestling in the U.S., governed by the NCAA, uses folkstyle for men and increasingly for women, with weight classes primarily in pounds. There are currently 17 weight classes used within U.S. collegiate wrestling.
