With great sadness, we inform you of the death of athlete Leandro Lo, in the early hours of Saturday (07/08).

Thank you Leandro for the legacy. You are and will always be the idol of this sport.

Condolences to the family and legion of students and the entire Jiu Jitsu world.

The incident happened early morning on 07 Aug. Leandro Lo was shot twice in the head at a party inside Clube Sírio, Sao Paolo.

The athlete’s lawyer has confirmed that he is brain dead.

According to family lawyer Ivã Siqueira Junior, the victim had an argument with the boy and to calm the situation, immobilized the man. After walking away, the boy pulled out a gun and shot the fighter.

A friend of the fighter who witnessed the crime said that the shooter was alone and provoked Lo and five friends at a table:

“He arrived, took a bottle of liquor from our table. Lo just immobilized him to calm down. He took four or five steps and fired,” said the witness, who asked not to be named.

By last updated information The attacker is an off-duty military police officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira who has been arrested.

The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat issued a note on the matter:

“A 33-year-old jiu-jitsu fighter was shot by an off-duty military policeman, 30, at dawn this Sunday (7), at a club on Avenida Indianópolis, in the Saúde neighborhood, south of the capital. that there was an argument between the two and the policeman shot the victim. The fighter was taken to Saboya Hospital, remaining hospitalized in serious condition. The case was registered as an attempted murder by the 16th DP (Vila Clementino), which is investigating the facts by means of a police investigation. The police authority represented for the preventive arrest of the author before the Justice. The Military Police regrets what happened. The institution has initiated an administrative investigation and collaborates with the searches to locate the author.”
