BJJ Instructor Claims 7-Year Unsubbed

A BJJ Instructor based in Tampa Bay is getting some backlash for claiming a seven-year streak of not being submitted in training.

Robby Donofrio recently made a video detailing his game and claiming he hasn’t been beaten in training in seven years

I’ve never been submitted in training in seven years, and here’s why. I’m always making connections to my opponent on my terms. And I never let him connect to me on his terms. And that’s my jiu-jitsu in a nutshell.”- Donofrio.

Backlash From This Claim

The YouTube comments have not been kind to  BJJ instructor Donofrio making such a strange claim and being proud of it.

“Another reason is that when I visited your gym this April, you said that you had a bad back and couldn’t roll.”

“AKA, I’m not rolling with anyone at my level.”

“Dude, the only reason that you haven’t been tapped in seven years(if you’re telling the truth) is because you haven’t been rolling with people who are stronger, faster, and better than you. There is always someone better than you.”

My Two Cents

For the past five years, I’ve been training in Brazil with world-class level competitors, who have actually won major titles(unlike this BJJ instructor). Not a week goes by without them getting submitted.

Only someone with a fragile ego would make such an absurd claim and boast about it. It makes no difference if you have or haven’t been submitted in training, and nobody cares.

You don’t get medals for not being submitted in training and it doesn’t signify that you’re a good BJJ instructor. Shut up and train.
