Wyatt Hendrickson Shocks The World
In the heavyweight finals, Oklahoma State University’s Wyatt Hendrickson faced Minnesota Gable Steveson in the finals. Steveson is a former Olympic champion and 3x world champion.
The odds were against Hendrickson, but he embraced the moment. When the match began, it looked like Steveson was going to win another NCAA title.
The Olympic champion went up early and held a 4-2 lead until deep into the 3rd period. That was when Wyatt dug deep and found the heart of a champion.
He shot in on a deep double leg and managed to get two Steveson’s back and earned 3 points.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Hendrickson was able to hold the 5-4 lead as time expired.
Hendrickson knocked off arguably the world’s greatest heavyweight wrestler to become an NCAA champion.
Greatest Upset In NCAA Wrestling History
There have been some big upsets in college wrestling, but none as big as this one. Wyatt Hendrickson just beat one of the most decorated heavyweight wrestlers in the history of the sport.
After the win, Hendrickson was ecstatic and even got congratulated by President Donald Trump in attendance.
