Is There Less Hype For ADCC This Year and Why?
ADCC is trying to create the biggest grappling event in history this year at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, there isn’t as much hype for this event as there was for the 2022 championship.
Two specific factors are adding to the lack of buzz around the event:
- The Craig Jones Invitational
- Following up ADCC 2022
ADCC vs. CJI 1
A month ago, Craig Jones came out of nowhere and announced the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational tournament.
The event is being held on the same weekend and in the same city as ADCC. For the last month, CJI has also been poaching confirmed ADCC competitors.
Many of the world’s top grapplers are jumping ship to CJI for the chance at $1 million. Each tournament competitor will also earn a game-changing $10,000,001 just for competing.
ADCC, on the other hand, has only ever paid the top 3 finishers of each bracket. We guess money talks, and that’s why many athletes have moved to CJI.
Difficulty Following ADCC 2022
The lack of stories is another significant factor adding to the lack of buzz for ADCC 2024. At the ADCC 2022 Championship, there were many stories to choose from.
- Gordon Ryan vs. Andre Galvao
- Gordon Ryan Simultaneously Competing in Absolute
- New Wave vs. B-Team
- Mica Galvao
- Tye Ruotolo
For the 2024 championship, there aren’t many stories that have people talking. There’s little to no hype around any of Gordon Ryan’s superfights.
While the lack of hype may be noticeable, it’s important to remember that in sports, anything can happen. Gordon has already beaten Yuri Simoes twice and won the grudge match against Felipe Pena two years ago.
Many fans would love to see an upset, and that possibility alone adds an element of intrigue to the event.
