Competitor Dies At IBJJF Chicago Open
From the r/bjj thread on Reddit, there was a reported death of a competitor at the IBJJF Chicago Open. Details are scarce from the incident, but here’s what we know as of now.
Following a competitor’s match, they sat in the bleachers and were having trouble catching their breath. They reportedly lost color in his face as his eyes rolled before collapsing.
Bystanders performed CPR and a defibrillator present in the building was used, but efforts failed to revive the competitor.
“Not a medical expert, but from what I was told from a young woman who alerted the medical staff and witnessed the entire thing from the beginning, he went to sit down in the bleachers after his match, his face went green, then ghostly white, eyes rolled to the back of his head and then he collapsed.”- Swayshot on Reddit.
As of now, the name of the competitor has not been released, nor has the IBJJF released a statement. If more details from the tragic event are released, we will let you know.
