Geo Martinez Retires From Competition

Geo Martinez, better known as “Freakazoid” has officially announced his retirement from professional grappling. For over a decade, Martinez has competed against the best in the world and has won multiple championships.

Martinez exploded onto the scene, using his breakdancing background blended with 10th Planet’s unorthodox Jiu-Jitsu approach to become a world-renowned Jiu-Jitsu athlete.

Freakazoid announced his retirement before CJI 2 and was true to his word that he would retire. This week, he was interviewed by FloGrappling and reflected on his career and the reason for his retirement.

Geo Martinez bluntly stated that he’s been competing for a long time, and since he’s running a gym full-time, he felt it was the right time to bow out of competition.

I’m running a gym full-time, and I’ve been competing for a long time. I’m getting older, and I have some injuries here and there. I think it’s just time for me to focus on my gym and my students.”

When you’re a competitor, it’s like you’re always on the grind. There’s never a rest time, you’re always getting ready for another tournament. Now it’s more about just the passion and just the love of the game.”- Geo Martinez.

Freakazoid Martinez was an incredible talent and left his mark on the sport. Thank you for putting on incredible matches, and enjoy your retirement.
