John Danaher Underwent 2nd Hip Replacement
John Danaher recently shared the news that he underwent a second hip replacement surgery. The master BJJ coach has spent a large portion of his life half-crippled from a knee injury and botched surgery.
Over the last decade, Danaher has been undergoing operations to attempt to fix his debilitation. The various surgeries have made John weigh the possibility of being unable to coach at a high level.
However, the good news now is that Danaher’s recent surgery went well, and he’s on the mend. He posted below that the surgery went well and that he is in good spirits.
“Today I went into surgery for my second hip replacement. I’ve had severe physical issues my whole career due to a crippled leg suffered from an early age. Typically when one part of a system is broken, it puts undue compensatory stress on other parts of that system and so I’ve juggled problems over the years. I’ve been holding off on this second surgery for around four years. I was going to do it after we left Puerto Rico but when the team broke up I had to delay it in order to be able to build a new team. Now it’s time as I’m struggling to even walk and perform basic functions, let alone Jiu jitsu. I will be out of action for a while but I believe I can still be a help conceptually until I can get active again.”- John Danaher
