Mikey Musumeci Pushed On Moneyberg Defense

The highly anticipated debate between Mikey Musumeci and Craig Jones on Demetrius Johnson’s podcast. It went a bit off the rails as alcohol was involved, and Mikey may have divulged too much on his contract.

However, one topic that people wanted to hear about was Musumeci on why he defended Derek Moneyberg. In a previous post, he said Moneyberg was a genius and deserved his promotion.

When Mikey was pressed on Moneyberg’s obvious lack of skills in the uploaded videos, he admitted that he doesn’t look like a black belt level grappler.

“He definitely does not look like a black belt when he’s physically doing those positions. He does those moves with socks on. There’s no grip, I don’t know how he does it.”- Mikey Musumeci.

On the podcast, Musumeci stated that he also wouldn’t give anyone a black belt in just 3.5 years and that Moneyberg is just a hobbyist who likes Jiu-Jitsu. He also diverted blame and told Jones to question Derek’s primary coaches about his skills.

“Did I give him his black belt? No. Would I give anyone their black belt in three and a half years? No, no.”

Again, I would not give anyone a black belt in three and a half years, but you could ask his instructors if he’s a black belt. The people that gave him his belt, Glover Teixeira, Lyoto Machida, Royce Gracie, all those guys, Jake Shields, you could ask.”– Mikey Musumeci

Craig also pressed Mikey if he was paid by Moneyberg to wear his rashguard. After some prodding by Jones, Mikey basically admitted that he was paid to wear the ugly rashguard.

Check out the clip below, and we’ll likely be posting more about the fallout from the Jones/Musumeci debate.
