Mikey Musumeci Makes Long Response to Multiple Criticisms

Apparently, Mikey Musumeci was tired of people on forums criticizing him over various topics. The most recent that seemed to annoy him the most was his upcoming rematch against Geo Martinez, which made detractors claim that he’s ducking top athletes

These critiques have annoyed Mikey to the point that he has posted a really long response on Reddit.

Bear with us as we break down every topic he hits, as the response is around 2000 words and is one large paragraph.

The Geo Martinez Rematch

One of the first things that Musumeci addressed was the criticism over his upcoming rematch with Geo Martinez. Some fans felt that Mikey was choosing easier competition by choosing the 40-year-old 10th Planet vet as his first title defense.

He commented that he was forced out of their initial rematch due to the death of his grandmother and that he promised Martinez the rematch right after he won the belt.

“I was supposed to headline a card vs. Geo and then my grandmother died and I wasn’t able to do the match. So, Geo did a whole camp for no reason for that.”

Mikey continued.

This year March and May we were supposed to finally do the match and both matches were cancelled as well, so Geo did camps and all that training for matches that didn’t happen. Was that fair to him? That’s why I gave him my word we would do the match 100% the second I got the belt.”- Mikey Musumeci.

Criticism of Not Having Tough Matches

Next, Musumeci addressed the claim that he doesn’t accept tough matches. He goes into how he’s only been doing No-Gi since 2021, his move to Asia, not being on steroids, and suffering health setbacks.

Mikey also cited issues with setting up matches and finding opponents while competing at ONE, and took issue with fans saying he chose weaker opponents

First of all, I’m not on steroids and can’t compete every week. I get super ill and injured when I attempt to.”

Continued:

“I then suffered from appendicitis and needed an appendectomy taking me out of ADCC that year. Which you guys have me hate for 😅. But still earlier than I was allowed agreed to fight Cleber Sousa(a guy I lost to in the past). After I won the belt, I had to wait until January to compete again(one couldn’t get any matches for me in these months) and it was against the current world champion in combat sambo(just like Kade and Danielle Kelly did as well) and that match was the second most viewed match in one history!!!!” Mikey Musumeci.

He also went into how Diego Pato couldn’t make 135 lbs to fight, and Lucas Pinheiro refused multiple fight offers, which is why he competed against Jared Brooks and then Shinya Aoki.

Baby Shark Using Steroids?

Then, out of left field, Mikey Musumeci claims that he was supposed to do a match against Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis multiple times, but they fell through for multiple reasons and made the accusation that Baby Shark is on steroids.

In his post, Mikey claims that Baby Shark sent ONE a list of steroids he was taking and said he couldn’t pass the drug test. (We honestly didn’t even know that ONE does drug testing.)

Continuing, Musumeci claims that he offered to fight Baby Shark with no drug test, but Reis decided to go compete at WNO instead.

Then baby shark cancelled the match like 4 times because he sent them all the steroids he’s on(these are the people you guys support, huh?) and said he can’t pass the drug test and I even offered to do the match with no drug testing. Then he fought wno instead of fighting me in the agreed month he was supposed to!”-Mikey Musumeci.

He later said that he tried to fight Baby Shark in UFC BJJ, but Reis signed an exclusive deal with ONE.

More Health Issues

Mikey then went on to discuss his various health issues, including tearing his lung while doing Rickson Gracie breathing exercises. After rehabbing from this injury, he kept negotiating more matches.

He later claimed to have gotten 3 stomach ulcers from overtraining before signing with UFC BJJ.

Accepting Matches Against Gordon Ryan, Craig Jones, and Kade Ruotolo

When Mikey Musumeci accepted to be on the UFC BJJ reality show, he was initially supposed to be on it with Gordon Ryan. He said Gordon pulled out, and they tried to sign Craig Jones, but Craig turned down the exclusive contract.

I accepted the ultimate fighter show to fight with Gordon and then Craig. But were unable to do it. So let me ask u, if I accepted to compete against baby shark 6 times, Kade, Gordon, and Craig how did I run from anyone?”- Mikey Musumeci.

Wrap Up

Critiques from various directions are obviously getting under Mikey Musumeci’s skin. It’s understandable as he’s being more vocal and trying to elevate the sport in his own way.

However, Mikey showing that the comments are upsetting him and posting his long response on Reddit will likely increase the criticism and trolling.

It’s cool that he’s trying to elevate the sport, but the trolls and critics will never stop coming at him(and especially now). Don’t be surprised to see people like Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones respond to his post.
