ADCC Needs Better Officiating
Since the ADCC expanded its open events, it has given a lot of young grapplers the spotlight to shine. Unfortunately, it has also given the spotlight to a lot of stupidity.
There have been numerous viral videos of matches spiraling off the mat and continuing without the referee intervening to reset them.
These scraps have even disrupted other matches going on, as ADCC referees are not controlling their mats.
However, the crown jewel of this stupidity was posted from the IG page Choke Lab.
In the clip below, two competitors are on the edge of the mat. The competitor playing guard throws up a triangle choke.
The other competitor lifts him up, turns him, and slams him directly on the hardwood floor to escape the choke. While all this is going on, the referee is five feet away just watching all this go down.
He didn’t stop them or reset the match, and just let the slam happen.
The ADCC is lucky that the competitor who got slammed on the hardwood wasn’t permanently injured, or they would be paying a big settlement right now.
All of these scraps off the mat and this slam on the hardwood are a clear sign that the organization needs better training for its referees.
If the refs don’t take control of the matches and enforce the rules, someone is going to get seriously hurt.
