Mckenzie Derin vs. Ashley Yoder
Saturday night Dern was able to get the win via split decision. Some would say it was a controversial decision.
Dern is a Jiu-jitsu specialist, but she barely had any success with her takedowns. She had trouble bringing her opponent, Ashley Yoder, down throughout the majority of the fight.
In the third round, Dern finally was able to get Yoder down. She took Yoder’s back and attempted a rear naked choke. Yoder’s experience and toughness allowed her to survive the choke in the final minute of round three.
Yoder dominated in the striking department, but Dern showed some determination. Although her striking is not at the same level as her ground game.
Ashley Yoder did a great job to keep the fight standing. That also forced Dern to stand and exchange strikes with her. This was a good test for Dern to see where she ranks in the striking aspect.
Before joining the UFC Dern fought in other organizations where she was able to take her opponents down and finish them with her Jiu-jitsu.
This was Dern’s first fight in the UFC. She is now 6-0. It seems that she is still figuring out the whole MMA ‘’thing’’. She is very talented and has potential, but will have to work very hard.
Frankie Edgar vs Brian Ortega
What a night it was for ‘’T-city’’. He came in as an underdog replacement for the Champ, Max Holloway and did not disappoint. Ortega was able to stun Edgar in the first round with a 12-6 elbow.
The elbow proved to be too much for Edgar and Ortega did not waste any time to finish the fight with strikes earning a KO victory.
Frankie Edgar has never been finished in his career before. He is one the legends in the sport of MMA. With his win over ‘’the answer,’’ Ortega cements his position for a title shot against Max Holloway.
