Hello Naser, can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello there, my name is Naser Abdulkareem. I’m 26 years old, born and raised in Kuwait, and I’m a black belt under Romulo Barral.

Is it your first time participating in Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu Jitsu Championship?

It’s actually my second time competing at the World Pro, but first time as a black belt. Excited to share the mats with the best in the world.

How is your training going leading up to the ADWPJJC?

The training went great, I started my camp in Gracie Barra Northridge for 5-6 weeks getting the trainings with the world’s best like Edwin Najmi, Pedro Serrano and Romulo Barral. Now I’m finishing up the camp in my hometown in Kuwait at the Kuwait Jiu Jitsu Academy.

How did the sport of Jiu Jitsu impact you on a personal level? Why do you recommend youth to practice the sport?

Jiu Jitsu had a huge impact on my personal level. Beyond the techniques and fun of training Jiu Jitsu, Jiu Jitsu has become a lifestyle. I see it as the perfect sport for children. I believe it helps gain confidence and introverts gain experience to communicate with others.

How do you see Abu Dhabi hosting global Jiu Jitsu championships and giving the chance for athletes to compete against the best in the world?

Abu Dhabi is doing a great job hosting the global events. Perfect arena, very professional with the athletes. I’m happy to see Jiu Jitsu getting bigger every year.

Who influenced you the most in developing your BJJ game?

The person who influenced me the most is my professor Romulo Barral. He’s a legend of the sport and an awesome teacher. I’m grateful to be his student.

Would you like to give any advice to our readers that would help them either on the mat or in their lives?

Just keep doing the trainings and never give up on your goals.
