UFC middleweight and former Strikeforce champion Jacare Souza walked away with a win on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 27 after defeating Derek Brunson. It was the second time they met. In the first meeting, Jacare won by a K.O. forty-one seconds into round 1. On Saturday Jacare was able to put away Brunson with a Mawashi-Geri (roundhouse kick) to the head in the first round. Middleweight division now has another contender in the race for a title shot. Souza’s last fight ended with a loss to current middleweight champ Robert Whittaker. Jacare is still a very serious contender for the title and makes the division more exciting. However, he might have to wait for his shot at the belt. Most likely the winner of Romero vs. Rockhold will get the opportunity to face Whittaker for the middleweight title.
