Alexander Volkov was able to successfully stop Fabricio Werdum at UFC London on Saturday. The Russian won in the fourth round via KO.

The Brazilian started the fight well but seemed to be relying too much on his Jiu-jitsu. Even after taking Volkov to the ground he was not able to hold him there and do damage. Volkov did a fantastic job defending on the ground and getting back up to his feet.

In the process, Werdum took too much damage which caused a swelling under his right eye. That played an effect in the fight.

The former Bellator Champ kept the fight on the feet which made the two men even. Werdum made attempts to take Volkov down, but they lacked set up.

As the fight went on the Brazilian’s right eye was closing up even more. Due to the damage to his eye, Werdum kept trying to bring the fight on the ground.

Finally, in round four after a three punch combination, an uppercut put Werdum down and Mark Goddard stopped the fight.

This is Volkov’s biggest win of his career. Before facing Werdum he stood at number eight in the rankings. The Russian will move up in the rankings and might even have an opportunity to fight for the belt.

After his loss on Saturday Werdum will drop down in the rankings and his road back to getting the belt becomes harder.
